Exploring poster design, 2010
This design project deals with the empty space as a notion within the cityscape. During the process of developing the series of posters, the intention was to work by removing something instead of adding something thus creating a message - but not necessarily without also adding something. The project is an exploration and study of how to add "empty space" or "nothing" to the existing visually crowded urban spaces of Copenhagen.Five weeks of exploration resulted in a poster series of three posters with hidden messages, i.e. the clarity of the message depending on the angle of the light, hence the posters only appear as blank, white surfaces when no message is seen. The message consists of four definitions of empty spaces, followed by "CITYSCAPE?" as the last word, inviting every passerby to reflect upon whether or not the urban spaces have - and not the least, should have - empty spaces. After ended project, a workbook was created to display and summarize the steps in each phase of the project development from research to production and final product.
